We are excited to announce that Honest Hemp has teamed up with the online fitness influencer Hench Herbivore to create the new Plant-Based Gains campaign! We want to help people make the change to a whole foods plant-based. Maximise your health, care for animals, and care for the planet.
There is often a big misconception that a vegan diet is automatically a healthy diet. In reality, ‘vegan’ describes the ethical stance of a person. Yes, it tells us something about their diet, but it only tells us what they don’t eat, not what they do!
You can have a vegan diet and still eat lots of typically ‘unhealthy’ foods, or eat in an excess / deficiency of calories or certain nutrients. This will have a very different outcome to what people like Hench Herbivore have achieved with their vegan diets. This is why we often refer to it as a whole foods plant-based diet.
Hench Herbivore has built up a large social media following due to his expertise in whole foods plant-based diets and bodybuilding. He knows exactly what & how much to eat in order to make gains – without relying on protein from meat!
Why Should I Go Plant-Based / Vegan?
A Plant-Based Diet Benefits Your Health
First of all, a whole foods plant-based diet can be extremely beneficial to your health. Research has suggested that this kind of diet could:
- Decrease your risk of heart disease by at least 20%.
- Extend the average life expectancy by around 8 years.
- Lower the risk of death related to cancer, heart problems, or obesity by around 30% to 50%.
- Lower your cholesterol – the average is 161 compared to an average of 210 in non-vegetarians.
In addition to this, a whole foods plant-based diet is often high in fibre. This leads to a whole host of health benefits, including healtheir bowel movements, and reduced risk of colon cancer, diabetes, ulcers, and other cancers.
Plus, the antioxidants and minerals found in plant-based whole foods can lead to countless health benefits. This includes healthier and better-looking skin, an increase of energy, improved sleep, improved mood, and loads more!
Veganism Benefits the Environment
On top of having lots of benefits to your individual health, adopting a vegan diet has great environmental benefits. The farming industry has a huge negative impact on the planet. It uses a tremendous amount of resources and releases an ungodly amount of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere every single day. To put this into perspective, a vegan diet could save this much every single day:
- 1 animal’s life
- 4,200 litres of water
- 20.4 KG of grain
- 9.1 KG of CO2 emission equivalent
- 2.8M2 of forested land
Yep, and that’s just in 1 day!
Veganism Reduces Animal Suffering
Last, but definitely not least, veganism prevents huge amounts of animal cruelty. By refusing to pay for animal products, you reduce the demand which ensures fewer animals are being bred to suffer and die. In the UK, around 1 billion animals are bred and killed for food each year – and that figure doesn’t even include fish. The conditions on factory farms are far from pleasant. Animals are crammed into small spaces and given the bare minimum – whatever is cheapest to keep them alive.
Many people think that buying products labelled as ‘free-range’ or ‘higher welfare’ solves this problem. Due to the way these products are marketed, people are completely in their right mind to believe this. However, this is far from the truth. Investigations have been conducted into these establishments that revealed horrific animal suffering and abuse. Many people are aware that veganism can have huge positive impacts on our health, animals, and the environment. But many of us just aren’t quite sure if we can fully commit to a plant-based lifestyle. This is why we launched this campaign – we want to show you how easy and enjoyable it can really be! Plus, you’ll feel so much better in yourself afterwards both physically and mentally. You’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner!
